Doctors of Chiropractic are also referred to as Chiropractors or Chiropractic Physicians.
The approach is drug-free and hands-on, and includes a physical examination, diagnosis, and treatment. Chiropractors have extensive diagnostic skills and are also knowledgeable concerning rehabilitative exercises, dietary, and lifestyle counseling. Using clinical examination, laboratory tests, diagnostic imaging, and other diagnostic tools to determine whether a chiropractic adjustment is indicated, as well as when to refer to other medical and health care professionals for co-management of conditions not in the scope of chiropractic.
The most common treatment rendered is a “spinal manipulation”, often referred to as a chiropractic adjustment. The purpose is to restore joint motion, relieve nerve irritation, and muscle spasms, in areas where joint motion is limited or absent, due to injury caused by traumas such as car accidents, falls, repetitive motion stress, or improper lifting. These injuries cause inflammation and pain due to the tissue damage. Chiropractic adjustments restore motion and relieve pain and muscle tightness.
