The NUCCA Process Upper cervical chiropractic is a specialty within the broader field of chiropractic that focuses on the top two bones of the neck — the upper cervical vertebrae. NUCCA is a gentle form of upper cervical care designed to correct the entire spine into a balanced, unstressed position; and focuses on a permanent correction. Why is the upper cervical area so important? The top two vertebrae of the spine, the upper cervical vertebrae, protect the brainstem. A misalignment of those two vertebrae can restrict or distort the signals that travel trough that area which leads to a disruption of the important bodily functions. The body transmits millions of electrical and chemical impulses back and forth from the brain to every cell in the body every minute of every day. These signals control important body functions that we are not even consciously aware of; such as heart rate, breathing, digestion, and many more. The brainstem is the bridge in communication between the brain and the rest of the body, pressure on the brainstem will impact the transmission of signals from the brain to the body.
