Description:

St. Onge Chiropractic & Sports Therapy, located in Irving, TX, specializes in the conservative treatment of soft tissue pain and dysfunction. We are dedicated to helping our patients live a happy, healthy and active life through the use of modern manual therapy methods such as Chiropractic, Active Release Techniques and Functional Exercise.

Patients come to us with pains ranging from back and neck pain to carpal tunnel syndrome and plantar fasciitis. We also treat a lot of athletes who suffer from over-use injuries brought on by rigorous training and competion schedules. By utilizing our unique combination of Chiropractic, Active Release and Functional Exercise protocols, we are usually able to provide rapid relief from the pains and dysfunctions that come with soft tissue injuries. In cases where our conservative methods are not adequate to successfully resolve the patient’s problem, we have a network of doctors and therapists that we refer to for help.

St. Onge Chiropractic & Sports Therapy has two goals in mind when treating our patients: 1.) Provide rapid relief from the pain and improve mobility and strength of the affected area; and 2.) Provide you with a method of maintaining the results from the treatment. This might involve making changes to your diet or increasing your activity. Certainly it will include teaching you some simple exercises that you can perform in the comfort of your own home.

St. Onge Chiropractic & Sports Therapy accepts most insurance and is currently “in-network” with most of the major insurance companies. We will handle all of the “insurance paper-work” for you. If you do not have insurance or have a high deductible plan we will be happy to work out a payment plan so that you can receive care. Our main concern is that you receive the care that you deserve.

Do you ever wake up in the morning with a stiff, achy neck, or do you have trouble looking over your shoulder when you are driving? Does your neck ache at the end of a long day of working at your computer station? You are certainly not the only one. In fact two-thirds of people will experience neck pain at some point in their lives.

Most neck pain is classified as mechanical neck pain. Mechanical pain means that the cause of the pain is strain to the muscles, tendons, ligaments, discs and joints. It is usually caused by things like not getting enough exercise, excessive sitting at a computer station, or using a non-supportive pillow to sleep. Generally people that we see for neck pain have poor posture. Their shoulders are internally rotated and there head sticks out in front. Sometimes headaches go along with the neck pain. The biggest problem with mechanical neck pain is that it is caused by inactivity and maintaining an awkward posture for long periods of time, which also causes degeneration of the ligaments, spinal discs and bones as well as leading to muscle weakness and an inability to handle the normal activities of daily life. Of course, actually being in pain tends to make you want to be even less active. Generally by the time someone has mechanical neck pain which is severe enough for them to seek help for it, they already have some degree of degeneration.

There are a lot of treatments available but recent research published in the Annals of Internal Medicine (a highly respected medical journal), found that manual therapy and exercise beat out medicine for effectiveness and other research has found that manual therapy beat all other treatments in cost savings. Strangely enough, the research found that people who undertook medical care or physical therapy for their neck pain, often wound up getting manual therapy treatments for relief. At St. Onge Chiropractic & Sports Therapy, manual therapy is the mainstay of our treatment in the form of chiropractic adjustment and Active Release Techniques. We also utilize exercises, primarily to improve your posture.

At St. Onge Chiropractic & Sports Therapy, we take a 3 step approach to treating mechanical neck pain.
1. Chiropractic treatment – the purpose of chiropractic treatment (a.k.a. spinal manipulation) is to improve the joint motion and alignment of spinal joints that have become fixated and poorly aligned.

2. Active Release Techniques (A.R.T.) – the purpose of A.R.T. is to improve the texture and mobility of the soft tissues like the muscles, nerves, ligaments and fascia which become bound together and lose their ability to glide.

3. Functional Exercises – the purpose of the functional exercise protocol that we create for you is to reinforce the mobility and alignment gains that were made during steps one and two of treatment and to improve your posture which helps to remove much of the stress and strain from the affected tissues.

Research teaches us that the use of manual therapies like chiropractic adjustments and A.R.T. are the most cost-effective and safe means of treating mechanical type neck pain and experience teaches us that teaching you specific functional exercises reduces your risk of suffering from pain in the future. We believe that this combination of care is the gold standard treatment for mechanical neck pain.

If you are ready to experience relief from your neck pain so that you can get back to the activities that put a big grin on your face . . .
