Chiropractic Manipulation -

We specialize in sports chiropractic with an emphasis on back pain, neck pain and extremity pain.

Chiropractic manipulation refers to a chiropractor applying manipulation to the vertebrae that have abnormal movement patterns or fail to function normally. Chiropractic manipulation (also known as chiropractic adjustment or spinal manipulation), is a common therapeutic treatment for low back pain.

The objective of this chiropractic treatment is to reduce the subluxation, which results in an increased range of motion, reduced nerve irritability and improved function.

On site X-rays -

X-Rays, Both visible light and X-rays consist of photon particles conveyed over electromagnetic energy. When carefully controlled, this energy can be used to reveal the internal structure of the body. We find these pictures quite helpful:

Manipulation Under Anesthesia -

Manipulation Under Anesthesia (M.U.A) is a treatment option for people suffering with muscular and spinal pain. This treatment is gaining popularity and may offer you the opportunity to greatly reduce if not eliminate your pain. This treatment uses twilight sedation to relax the muscles. Once relaxed, the patient is gently stretched and the fixations to the spine are released. This allows greater movement and flexibility which is free from pain. Many patients awake feeling and better than ever. This treatment is performed in a local center which is used by some of the leading Orthopedic Surgeons in the area. M.U.A has been shown to be safe and effective.



Electrical Stimulation -

Electrical stimulationis also known as Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (T.E.N.S). T.E.N.S delivers a painless electrical current through the patient’s skin to specific nerves. The current produces mild heat that works to relieve stiffness and pain and helps to improve range of motion (mobility). This treatment is non-invasive with no known side effects. It may be used to control acute pain and chronic pain.


Disc Decompression Therapy

Decompression Therapy is a non-surgical procedure that effectively treats disabling low back, neck, and radiating leg, & arm pain. Decompression Therapy effectively relieves pain associated with disc herniation, degenerative discs, posterior facet syndromes, due to decompression of spinal discs and facet joints, that is, unloading due to distraction and positioning.
Decompression Therapy effectively enhances the healing process and renders quick, effective and amazing pain relief that enables most patients to return to a more active lifestyle.

Intersegmental Traction -

Why is Intersegmental Traction used?
Since discs have a poor blood supply, they get nutrients from the circulation of fluids surrounding spinal joints. Fixations prevent this natural circulation and can cause disc thinning and degeneration. Intersegmental traction helps increase and restore necessary elasticity and motion to the spine. The “roller table” is a favorite for many patients in the office. Besides being a relaxing therapy that feels good, it is effective in increasing mobility in each segment of the spine. The “roller table” keeps the spine flexible and loose.

Manual Therapy -

Chiropractic manual therapy refers to the natural methods of using the hands to be able to create some desirable outcomes in the body. For example, adjusting is a chiropractic manual therapy. Microcurrent Therapy -

Microcurrent Therapy uses extremely small amounts of electrical current (millionths of an amp) to help relieve pain and heal soft tissues of the body. Injury to the body disrupts its normal electrical activity. Microcurrent Therapy produces electrical signals like those naturally occurring when the body is repairing damaged tissues. By applying similar electrical currents, the healing process is enhanced. The electrical current used in Microcurrent Therapy is so small that it is rarely felt. However, the water-moistened electrodes or gel used to conduct the current may seem cool when first applied.

Microcurrent Therapy is often recommended in cases involving soft tissue inflammation or muscle spasm. Since Microcurrent Therapy mimics the body’s electrical fields it is helpful in relieving pain and stimulation the healing of soft tissues. Microcurrent Therapy can help speed the healing process, reduce swelling and inflammation, masks acute and chronic pain, releases muscle trigger points, and improves, soft tissue regeneration.

Heat/Ice Therapy -

While ice therapy is used to reduce swelling, heat therapy is used to relax the muscles and increase circulation. Both kinds of therapy help reduce pain.

Heat therapy is often used in patients who have chronic, or long-lasting pain. Heat therapy can involve many kinds of methods, from simple heating pads, wraps, and warm gel packs, to sophisticated techniques, such as therapeutic ultrasound.

Ice massage, or cryotherapy, is effectively used to treat many kinds of injuries, including those associated with back or neck pain.

Ice causes the veins in the affected tissue area to constrict. This reduces the flow of blood while acting as kind of anesthetic to numb the pain. But when the ice is removed (and this is key), the veins compensate by opening large, allowing a greater volume of blood to rush to the affected area. The blood brings with it important chemicals that aid in the healing process.

Myofascial Release -

Myofascial release is a highly specialized stretching technique used to treat patients with a variety of soft tissue problems:

muscle dysfunction
tendon dysfunction
ligament dysfunction
nerve dysfunction
Adhesions in the myofascial system, causing restrictions in movement, are a common source of musculoskeletal pain and dysfunction.

Untreated, these adhesions will eventually become scar tissue. Myofascial release therapy consists of breaking up these adhesions by “ironing out” the scar tissue.

Sprains and strains, myofascitis, tendonitis, bursitis, and nerve entrapment are all effectively treated with myofascial release. The result is improved movement patterns with better efficiency and less effort.

Neuromuscular Re-Education -

Neuromuscular reeducation is a therapeutic technique that is used to improve:

Balance
Coordination
Posture
Proprioception (sense of body position)
Treatment may include balance exercises such as one-legged standing and the progressive use of wobble discs, bosu dome, and theraballs.

Another form of treatment is Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (P.N.F) – an assisted stretching technique alternating between contracting and relaxing the muscles being stretched.

The individual receiving treatment is encouraged to feel the correct position of joints and to perceive the direction of movement of the body extremities.

The goal of neuromuscular reeducation is to restore the natural mind-body connection by coordinating mental perception to physical action.

Through injury, repetitive use, poor posture and biomechanics, we often alter the movement patterns in our bodies with inefficient, energy consuming substitutions. Through neuromuscular reeducation exercises, we restore the natural, energy efficient movement patterns, promoting optimal joint biomechanics, improving physical function, and decreasing pain.

Therapeutic Exercises -

We teach our patients special exercises designed just for them to help strengthen and correct their own unique problem. These exercises can be performed in the comfort of your own home and can improve the effectiveness of your spinal correction by as much as 30-40%. This enhances the treatment process and helps maintain healing benefits, as well as reducing the likelihood of future problems.



Ultrasound -

Ultrasound therapyuses high-frequency sound waves to produce heat that can reduce pain. It may be used to treat conditions such as musculoskeletal injuries, arthritis and fibromyalgia.

Typically performed during physical therapy, occupational therapy or manipulation therapy, ultrasound therapy provides deep heat to the affected tissues.
